We offer cultural activities and experiences for a wide range of groups and organisations;
school groups, teachers doing professional development, corporate groups or other community organisations. All experiences can be offered in either Te Reo Māori or English.
ĀTEA TOURS
We are the only organisation authorised to take tours and give kōrero of the Ātea a Rangi. Tours usually range from 45 mins to 1.5 hours.
The area is one of the richest in Hawkes Bay for both Māori and European history.
Larger groups are split up and rotate between another walking tour of the Waitangi Regional Park.
WAKA SAILS
Our waka Te Matau a Māui can take groups from up to 20 onboard the waka for sails into the Bay lasting anywhere between 1-3 hours.
Larger groups are spit up and rotate between another onshore activity.
All sails and bookings are weather dependent.
WHARE WHETŪ
Our Whare Whetū (Portable Planetarium) can be taken into large rooms (7m X 7m wide X 3.5m high) and takes groups up to 20 adults in one sitting or 30 kids.
Within the whare whetū we can explain and show various concepts of Māori and Pacific Island star lore, astronomy and navigation.
The whare whetū is part of our 5 week Māori new year programme for primary & intermediate schools.
DOCKED WAKA TOURS
We offer docked tours and kōrero onboard Te Matau a Māui, this is usually a great option for primary school classes.
Larger groups are spit up and rotate between another onshore activity.
LEARNING TO SAIL
We have a small fleet of waka taurua which are our 5 meter double hulled sailing canoes.
These are ideal for both kids and adults to learn how to sail in a safe environment.
The waka taurua are part of our 5 week 'Learning to sail waka' programme for primary & intermediate schools.
This programme is proudly sponsored by the Napier Port.
WALKING TOURS & KŌRERO
Our crew all whakapapa to local areas with historical Māori interest and have some awesome stories and knowledge to share for all ages and people from all backgrounds.
